The Bemidji State University men’s basketball team was picked to finish seventh in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference North Division and 13th overall, as the NSIC Preseason Coaches’ Poll was released Thursday. Senior guard Kaylor Zimmerman was named the Player to Watch.
NSIC Regular Season Champions Augustana University and Minnesota State University Moorhead were selected to finish first and second, respectively, in the overall standings. Augustana received 225 points and 15 first-place votes while MSU Moorhead received 210 points and one first-place vote. Minnesota State University, Mankato, Winona State University and Northern State University round out the top five vote getters.
MSU Moorhead was picked first in the North Division with 49 points and seven first-place votes. Northern State followed in second with 43 points and one first-place vote. Bemidji State was selected seventh in the NSIC North, receiving 15 points, and 13th in the overall poll with 53 points.
The Beavers finished the 2014-15 season 8-19 overall and 4-18 in the NSIC. Bemidji State returns eight letterwinners from a season ago while bringing in 10 new student-athletes.
Head Coach Mike Boschee enters his fourth season with the program while totaling a 44-40 record with the Beavers.
Bemidji State begins the 2015-16 season with a weekend slate against Northland College Friday, Nov. 13 at 8 p.m. followed by Crown College Saturday, Nov. 14 at 8 p.m.
