The Bemidji State University volleyball team will look to build upon its first win in seven games after defeating the University of Minnesota Crookston Tuesday, Oct. 20. The Beavers (5-16, 3-9 NSIC) travel to face Upper Iowa University Friday, and No. 25 Winona State University Saturday.
Bemidji State snapped a seven-game losing streak when they defeated Minnesota Crookston 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-22). Junior Jessica Yost paced the Beavers with 20 kills in the match, and in two games against the Golden Eagles, Yost has 42 kills after posting a season-high 22 kills on Sept. 22.
Yost leads the Beaver’s attack this season and has 228 kills (3.00 k/s) entering the weekend’s action. Fellow junior Amanda Tronick also leads BSU’s attack and has 217 kills (2.86 k/s) to stand second on the team. Setter Ashley Kiecker organizes BSU’s attackers and ranks 15th in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference with 480 assists (6.32 a/s).
Senior Kayla DeJong leads Bemidji State’s defense with 317 digs (4.17 d/s), but BSU has five student-athletes with atleast 100 or more digs. Yost ranks second on the team with 199 digs (2.62 d/s) followed by Tronick (152, 2.00 d/s), Courtney Fox (151, 2.01 d/s), and Kiecker (113, 1.49 d/s).
