The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference announced the 2015 All-Conference teams today, which included 14 student-athletes from the 2015 Bemidji State University NSIC North Division Championship team. True freshman Gunner Olszewski headlines the selections as the NSIC Defensive Newcomer of the Year.

The Beavers’ Colton Blascyk, Greg Button, Jesse Hein, Jordan Hein, Gunner Olszewski and Juwaan Richard were named First Team All-NSIC, while Damon Benham, Vince Dinkel, Tahi Nomane, Mario Stephens and Matthew Valentine were selected Second Team All-NSIC. Jordan Noskowiak, Chris Otsby and Jake Wirsching were selected to the All-NSIC Honorable Mention team.

Olszewski earned first team and NSIC Defensive Newcomer of the Year honors while hovering around the top of several categories in the NSIC. He led the Beavers “Gang Green” defense with 85 tackles, 12 pass defenses and seven interceptions from the defensive back position. The tackle total led all NSIC freshman while ranking 15th overall. Olszewski’s interceptions ranked second in the NSIC and first on the team, which was one short of tying a BSU program single-season record, while the total pass defenses ranked seventh in the conference and first on the team.

Olszewski earned two player of the week honors in 2015 after tying a program record of three interceptions at Minot State University. He was named the NSIC Defensive Player of the Week before earning national recognition as the D2Football.com Defensive Player of the Week. In addition to his duties on defense, Olszewski placed himself 10th all-time in program history in single-season punt return yards with 209.
