The Bemidji State University tennis team suffered its first loss of the 2016 season Saturday, dropping a neutral-site NSIC match to Upper Iowa University. Following the 6-3 loss, the Beavers move to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in league play.
The Beavers trailed the Peacocks 2-1 after doubles play. BSU’s duo of Morgan Opp and Zoe Lindgren earned an 8-4 victory in the No. 2 position, but the Beavers dropped the No. 1 and 3 doubles matches.
As singles play got underway, BSU fell at its top two positions, but Opp pulled out a straight sets victory (6-4, 6-0) over UIU’s Linn Sormann at No. 3 singles. Justine Scheller also earned a singles victory at No. 6 for BSU, defeating Julia Prokopysyn (7-6 (7-1), 6-4) of UIU.
The Beavers returns to the Gillett Recreation-Fitness Center this weekend for a pair of NSIC matches. BSU will host University of Minnesota Duluth at 2 p.m. Saturday before a noon match up with St. Cloud State University Sunday.
