The Bemidji State University softball team went undefeated on the final day of the Dragon-Beaver Battle in West St. Paul, Minn., Friday. The Beavers (8-3) began the day by defeating Viterbo University, 4-1 then downed Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opponent Minnesota State University, Moorhead, 11-0 in non-conference action.
Jessica Yost threw her third one-hit shutout of the season when the Beavers defeated the Dragons and allowed just one walk with eight strikeouts. The Beavers had one of their strongest offensive outputs of the season in the game and had four players record two or more RBI in the game.
The Beavers used an early lead and a strong pitching performance from Jenna Massingill and Jessica Yost to earn their first victory of the day against the V-Hawks. Freshman Kelsey McAllister drove in the team’s first three runs of the game and led the Beavers by going 2-for-3 at the plate with a homerun, double and three RBI.
Bemidji State scored two runs in the first inning when McAllister hit a bases-loaded double that scored Alexandra Ripka and Jessica Burlingame. BSU extended its lead to three in the next inning, thanks to a solo homerun by McAllister.
Massingill was dominant in the pitcher’s circle and retired 12 of the 16 batters she faced allowing just three hits and one run while earning 10 strikeouts. Yost came in relief of Massingill in the fifth inning and retired nine straight batters to earn her first save of the year as the Beavers defeated the V-Hawks, 4-1.

The Beavers then used one if its highest offensive outburst of the season in the final game of the day to down MSU-Moorhead, 11-0, in five innings. Bemidji State scored eight runs in the second inning and Yost shutdown the Dragons in a one-hit shutout to earn the victory.
After a scoreless first inning, BSU’s bats came alive in the second and saw Alayna Krejci, Lyndsey Peterson, Jessica Yost, and Makayla Pagel all record RBI in the inning. Krejci began the inning by driving in Pagel off of a single. Peterson then led the Beavers by hitting a bases-loaded double that scored three followed by two-run homeruns by Yost and Pagel in her second at-bat in the inning.
The Beavers added three runs in the fourth inning on RBI from Erin Robson, Krejci and Erin Deters. The run support was more than enough, however, for Yost who retired 11 of 12 batters before allowing the first hit of the game with two outs in the fifth. For Yost its her sixth complete game of the season and third one-hitter.
Five Beavers recorded multiple hits in the game including Pagel and Yost who each went 2-for-3 with a homerun and two RBI to lead BSU. Krejci finished the game by going 2-for-3 with two RBI while Peterson went 1-for-3 with a double and three RBI.
