Bemidji State University’s Jacqueline Kaasa and Alexis Joyce combined for four goals and an assist and the Beavers posted their highest goal total of the season, but it was not enough to top the visiting Minnesota Whitecaps Saturday at Sanford Center.
After jumping out to a 2-0 lead during the first five minutes of the game, BSU saw the Whitecaps score six unanswered goals during the next 33:20 and take a 6-3 advantage into the final period of play. Despite a pair of goals late in the third, Bemidji State was unable to battle back from the deficit and dropped the exhibition contest, 8-5.
Joyce led the Beavers totaling a pair of goals and an assist in her move from the BSU blue line to a forward position. Kaasa, a freshman, chipped in two goals, while linemate Lauren Miller posted two assists and Emma Terres netted a goal and an assist on the afternoon.
The Beavers return to Western Collegiate Hockey Association play next Friday and Saturday then they host St. Cloud State University. The opening faceoff is set for 3:07 p.m. each afternoon.
