The Bemidji State University women’s hockey team breaks from Western Collegiate Hockey Association play this weekend as it travels to Rochester, N.Y. to battle the Rochester Institute of Technology in a two-game non-conference series. The Beavers (6-11-1) face the Tigers (3-16-1) to wrap up the 2016 portion of its schedule.
The Series
The Beavers go head-to-head with the Tigers for the first time in program history. BSU is 2-0-0 in non-conference play this season. BSU traveled to Syracuse and defeated the Orange 2-1 and 3-0 to open the season, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
The Bemidji State women’s hockey team split a WCHA series at Minnesota State University, Mankato, Dec. 2-3, to move to 6-11-1 overall and 4-11-1 in WCHA play. BSU gained a 2-0 victory Friday before a rally fell short Saturday and the Beavers dropped the game 3-2. Friday’s victory snapped a three-game losing skid overall and was BSU’s first road victory since Oct. 1 at Syracuse-a streak spanning seven games (0-6-1).
Brittni Mowat turned aside 19 shots Friday to post her second shutout of the season and 17th of her career. She sits just one blank sheet from matching BSU great Zuzana Tomcikova, who is BSU’s all-time shutouts leader with 18 (2008-12). The shutout marked the Beavers’ third of the season and first since Mowat stopped 31 shots to help BSU defeat Minnesota 2-0, Oct. 8. Saturday freshman forward Kiki Radke netted her first collegiate goal during the first period. She quickly added her second collegiate goal during the second period. She leads all BSU rookies with six points (2g-4a).
