The Sanford Center Series concludes as the Bemidji State University women’s basketball team hosts University of Minnesota Crookston for the season series finale. The Beavers (4-9, 1-8 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) and Golden Eagles (3-10, 3-6 NSIC) tip off at 6 p.m. in the 40th installment of the Highway 2 rivalry.
The Beavers and Golden Eagles rivalry began Jan. 6, 1996 as BSU took a 101-56 win in Bemidji. Bemidji State leads the all-time record, 21-18, although Minnesota Crookston has won three consecutive games in the series.
UMC took the first game of the season series Dec. 15, 80-68, in Crookston, Minn. A 27-point third quarter propelled the Golden Eagles during the win despite 24 points from Beavers senior guard Aimee Pelzer.
Bemidji State nabbed its first win of conference play during the first two games of the Sanford Center Series. BSU opened the weekend with a 65-59 loss to St. Cloud State University before its first win since Nov. 26, a 60-57 victory over University of Minnesota Duluth.
Minnesota Crookston split last weekend on the court at home against Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State. The Golden Eagles opened with a 65-53 loss to the Bulldogs before a 78-76 win to the Huskies. UMC enters Tuesday’s game sixth in the NSIC North division standings with wins against Bemidji State, Minnesota Duluth and Upper Iowa.
