Video – Beaver Fever Friday – Carter Struthers – Mens Hockey

Bemidji State University scored two times in the first 3:07 of the second period to extend its lead to two goals and would not look back as the Beavers rolled to a 5-1 victory over Ferris State University Saturday. The victory snapped a two-game losing skid and allowed the Beavers to salvage a series split.

Six different BSU players recorded two points in the game and the goal-starved Beavers broke a string of seven games a string of seven games (3-4-0) without netting more than two goals.

The line of Phillip Marinaccio, Kyle Bauman and Charlie O’Connor sparked the scoring outburst for the Beavers.

BSU netminder Michael Bitzer did the rest. The junior piled up 32 saves, including 15 in the second period alone, in the victory to improve to 16-8-3 on the season. In the process he moved past BSU great Mark Liska (1981-85) and into sole possession of 10th place on BSU’s all-time saves list with 2,045.

BSU, now 16-9-3 overall and 16-4-2-2 in WCHA play, breaks from league play Jan. 27-28 to play in the North Star College Cup. The Beavers open the event with St. Cloud State University at 4 p.m. Friday at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Minn.
