The Bemidji State University women’s hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie with University of North Dakota Sunday afternoon in Grand Forks, N.D. The Beavers (9-14-3, 5-14-3-1 WCHA) earn one point in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association standings.
Sophomore Emily Bergland scored for the fourth-straight game just five minutes into the first period to put the Beavers ahead early but Charly Dahlquist tied the game late in the third period to force overtime.
Senior Brittni Mowat stopped 28-of-29 shots by the Fighting Hawks while in the opposite net, Lexie Shaw made 23-of-24 saves.
Bemidji State dictated play in the first period and outshot North Dakota 8-2 in the period. Bergland scored her team-leading 11th goal of the season after tapping in a rebound off a shot from junior Emma Terres for the Beavers’ first lead of the series.
Neither team was able to score in the second period and UND picked up play in its offensive zone in the final period and were rewarded with a power-play goal from Dahlquist with 7:56 left to play. The score went unchanged and after 60 minutes, BSU and UND were tied at one.
The Beavers were unable to score on two power play opportunities while the Fighting Hawks went 1-for-1.
Bemidji State returns home to host top-ranked University of Wisconsin next weekend when they play a WCHA series at Sanford Center, Feb. 3-4.
