The Bemidji State soccer team looks to remain unbeaten this week as it splits the week between a road match and a return home. BSU hits the road to face Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D. at 3 p.m. Friday Sunday, the Beavers return home to face Minnesota State University Moorhead at 1 p.m. for its Cheryl Smyth Memorial/Cancer Awareness Match.
Bemidji State extended its season-opening unbeaten streak to nine matches last week, earning a 3-0 victory at Concordia University-St. Paul Friday and battling No. 13 Minnesota State University, Mankato to a 0-0 double overtime draw Sunday. BSU’s eight-match winning streak, and now nine-match unbeaten streak both stand as program records.
BSU in second in the league in scoring, averaging 2.00 goals per game this season. On the flip side, BSU has allowed a league low 0.11 goals per game in 2017 to rank among the top five in the country. BSU has also outscored its opponents 18-1 this season.
BSU junior, Rachel Norton, had a hand in all three of the Beaver’s goals from Sept. 29-Oct. 1. She scored the game-winning goal in a 3-0 matchup at Concordia-St. Paul and assisted on each of the subsequent BSU goals. She led the team with six shots and four shots on goal. Anna Fobbe was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Goalkeeper Player of the Week following a shutout of Minnesota State Sunday. Fobbe collected a season-high nine saves in her third shutout of the season.
