The Bemidji State University tennis team defeated St. Cloud State University, with a score of 5-4, Feb. 17 at the Gillett Wellness Center.
BSU and SCSU battled hard throughout their nine matches, with BSU coming out on top. Doubles matches were won by the tandems of Hannah Alme and Brooke Mimmack, 8-2, and Breann Walsh and Rachel Will, 8-2. One loss in doubles play came from Zoe Lindgren and Adriadna Lopez-Simo, who fell 8-1 against SCSU’s No. 1 doubles pair of Fernanda Quintino dos Santos and Alexie Portz.
The Beavers and Huskies split singles play. Wins for the Beavers came from Lindgren, Alme, and Mimmack. After 2 intense sets of No. 1 singles play Lindgren won 6-3, 6-4 against the Huskies’ Fernanda Quintino dos Santos. Brooke Mimmack was the only Beaver to win a set without dropping a point in her second set against Ann Marie White. In NO. 6 singles play, Hannah Peterson split with Abby Scheck and ended up falling with a tiebreaker score of 10-5.
Bemidji State had their match last weekend postponed with Minnesota Duluth due to snow. They will travel to Sioux Falls to play Sioux Falls and Augustana this weekend.
