The Bemidji State University men’s golf team travels to Smithville, Mo., April 13-14 to compete in the 2018 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Men’s Golf Championships.
The championship is held at the Paradise Point-Outlaw Golf Complex in Smithville, Mo., and will be a three-round tournament beginning at 9 a.m., April 13. This is the third year the NSIC Men’s Golf Championship will be held at the 6,710 yard, par 72 course located just outside of Kansas City, Mo.
Bemidji State placed sixth at the 2017 tournament, with Minnesota State University, Mankato taking first for the third year in a row. Leading the Beavers in 2018 is freshman Ian Mackenzie-Olson who ranks third in the NSIC with a 73.2 scoring average in 20 rounds. Following Mackenzie-Olson is junior Cody Cook who is 17th in the conference with a 75.7 scoring average while freshman Tanner Sperling ranks 20th with a 76.6 scoring average.
The Beavers come into the NSIC Championships after a cancelled competition against Concordia College-Moorhead and a second-place finish at the Upper Iowa Spring Invite, March 29-30.
At the Upper Iowa Invite, Bemidji State was led by Cody Cook, who took home a silver medal after scoring 142 followed by Ian Mackenzie-Olson, who tied for fourth and carded 145. The Beavers lead all NSIC teams at the tournament and finished behind University of Nebraska-Kearney.
