Womens Hockey Off This Week, Opens WCHA Play Next Week
The Bemidji State University women’s hockey team fell to Providence College, 4-1, in its opening game with the Friars (1-0-0, 0-0-0 Hockey East) last Friday night in Providence, R.I. The Beavers (0-3-0, 0-0-0-0 WCHA) lone goal was scored by junior Abby Halluska, her first goal of the season.
Sophomore Kerigan Dowhy earned her second start of the season and allowed four goals on 25 shots to fall to 0-2-0 on the season.
The Bemidji State University women’s hockey team scored three goals in the second period to go up 3-0 on Providence College but four-unanswered goals by the Friars (2-0-0, 0-0-0 Hockey East) gave them the series sweep. The Beavers fall to 0-4-0 (0-0-0-0 WCHA) to start the season and will have next weekend off before traveling to University of Minnesota Duluth.
Sophomores Clair DeGeorge, Lindsey Featherstone and Tina Kampa all scored for the Beavers while Briana Jorde, Emily Bergland, Ellie Moser and Abby Halluska each added assists. Redshirt-sophomore Lauren Bench started in goal for the Beavers and earned 23 saves but falls to 0-2-0 on the season.
BSU travels to Minnesota Duluth next weekend.
