Beaver Volleyball prepares for final road matches at Minot State and U-Mary
The Bemidji State University volleyball team concludes the road portion of its 2018 schedule this weekend by traveling to Minot State University and University of Mary. The Beavers (5-19, 2-14 NSIC) face off with Minot State (11-15, 4-12 NSIC) for a clash of the Beavers Friday at 6 p.m. followed by the Marauders (3-21, 0-16 NSIC) Saturday at 11 a.m.
The Series
Minot State: Friday’s match will be the second battle of the two Beavers of the season and just the 11th of the all-time series. The series is tied at 5-5 after Minot State defeated the Beavers 3-1 (20-25, 21-25, 25-22, 16-25) in Bemidji on Sept. 22. Anna Averkamp and Greta Paszek led the Beavers with 10 kills each while Julie Touchett earned six blocks (3s-3a) in the game. The Beavers have lost three in a row to Minot State with their last win occurring Oct. 14, 2016. Bemidji State head coach Kevin Ulmer is 1-3 against MiSU while second-year head coach Dana Cordova is 3-0 versus the Beavers.
U-Mary: Saturday’s meeting between the Marauders and Beavers will be just the 26th of the all-time series dating back to 1987 and the second of the 2018 season. The Beavers downed U-Mary 3-1 (19-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-17) earlier this season on Sept. 2 and BSU owns the all-time series record at 14-11. Sophomore Anna Averkamp led BSU in their last meeting with 10 kills against the Marauders while Becka Cronin totaled a career-best five aces. Third-year head coach Kevin Ulmer is 2-1 against the U-Mary while first-year head coach Korie Tetzlaff is 0-1.
