BSU Men’s Golf picked to finish fourth in NSIC Preseason Coaches’ Poll
The Bemidji State University men’s golf team was voted to finish fourth in the 2021 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll announced Wednesday morning. The Beavers garnered 58 points in the poll including two first place votes.
Redshirt senior Chris Swenson was selected as the Beavers’ Preseason Golfer to Watch while University of Sioux Falls’ JJ Cooney was voted by league coaches as the NSIC Men’s Golf Preseason Golfer of the Year.
Winona State University was picked to win the NSIC in the preseason men’s golf coaches’ poll. The Warriors, the reigning NSIC Championships from 2019, received five first place votes and tallied 73 points to rank ahead of Concordia University-St. Paul, which tallied 62 points and one first place vote. Sioux Falls was voted third with 60 points and one first place vote.
Swenson returns for his redshirt senior season after having last season cut short due to COVID-19. The Fergus Falls, Minn., native competed in six events for the Beavers last season and compiled a scoring average of 74.0 for second on the team and tied for 12th in the NSIC.
Bemidji State returns 10 lettwerwinners from last season and will have four seniors on the team in Swenson, Tanner Sperling, Brandon Nelson and Aaron Schnathorst. The Beavers have also added three freshmen to the squad in Max Karnik, Koby Kuenzel and Jack Southard.
The Beavers begin the season Monday and Tuesday at the Winona State Invite in Las Vegas.
