Beavers and Chargers clash to cap regular season
The Bemidji State University men’s hockey team is back at Sanford Center this weekend for one last regular-season series as it hosts long-time rival University Alabama-Huntsville. The two-game Western Collegiate Hockey Association series will get started with a 4:07 p.m. opening faceoff Saturday before a 2:07 p.m. puck drop for the regular-season finale.
Over the course of the last 30 years, Alabama-Huntsville has been one of BSU’s most consistent rivals. Dating back to the mid-1990s when the teams met in the NCAA Division II tournament on what seemed like an annual basis, to founding members of College Hockey America to the present in the WCHA. BSU owns a commanding 55-32-5 all-time record versus the Chargers, which includes 31-10-2 mark in games played in Bemidji, Minn.

The Beavers open the series after winning two of their last three and have four straight over UAH.
At 11-8-3 overall and 6-5-1 in WCHA play, the Beavers are sixth in the WCHA standings, two points behind Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan for fourth place. With the final games of the WCHA regular season playing out this weekend, BSU will learn its postseason fate Sunday. With all eight teams making the postseason playoffs, the top four teams earn the right to host the first round, best-of-three playoff series, March 12-13 and 14, if needed. The semifinal and championship games will be played and the highest remaining seed, March 19-20.
