Soccer slides up two spots to No. 13 in national poll

The United Soccer Coaches organization has tabbed Bemidji State University among the nation’s top 25 NCAA Division II teams for the second consecutive week. After remaining unbeaten in their first seven matches of the 2021 season, the Beavers hold down the No. 13 spot in the Sept. 28 version of the United Soccer Coaches Women’s Soccer Poll.

The No. 13 ranking marks a two-spot improvement from the Beavers’, 2021 debut in the national poll at No. 15, Sept. 21.

With this second straight appearance in the poll, the Beavers have earned a spot in the United Soccer Coaches national poll on 17 occasions, which includes climbing to as high as No. 3, a program all-time best, Oct. 16, 2018.

The Beavers are the only team hailing from the NSIC among the top 25 and rank second in the Central Region Poll behind only Emporia State University (7-0-1). Minnesota State University Mankato (6) and Minot State University (10) are also represented among the region’s top 10.

BSU completed its second week of NSIC play with a 6-0-1 overall record and a 3-0-1 mark in league play. The Beavers earned a 2-2 tie in 110 minutes on the road at Minnesota State Friday before a 2-1 victory at Concordia-University-St. Paul Sunday. BSU has won 11-of-12 regular-season matches (11-0-1) is unbeaten dating back to Nov. 1, 2019.

The No. 13 Beavers return to Chet Anderson Stadium this weekend to host Augustana University at 7 p.m. Friday before a 1 p.m. matinee versus Wayne State College Sunday.
