Bemidji State University Women’s Soccer senior forward Katrina Barthelt has been named the 2025 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. The coaches in the league also predicted the Beavers would finish third in the 2025 NSIC Preseason Women’s Soccer Coaches’ Poll. Additionally, senior defender Emma Huelsnitz is recognized as the Beavers’ Defensive Player to Watch.
Head coach Jim Stone expressed confidence in the team’s collective experience, which he believes contributes to their competitiveness and unity. He is excited about the potential of the 2025 team and the new freshmen joining the squad. Barthelt, who topped the NSIC in scoring last season and is the reigning Offensive Player of the Year, has scored 25 goals in her college career, ranking ninth in program history.
Emma Huelsnitz, returning for her fifth year, played 1,541 minutes last season and contributed two goals and an assist. She is a team captain and has significant experience, logging over 4,000 minutes and 58 appearances. Coach Stone praised her strong leadership and skill on the field.
In the 2025 NSIC Preseason Coaches’ Poll, Bemidji State received 177 points, placing third behind Minnesota State University, Mankato, and Concordia University-St. Paul. The 2025 season will mark the 30th anniversary of Bemidji State Women’s Soccer, celebrating a history of 270 victories and several championships.
Head coach Jim Stone, who has been with the program for 23 years, has a winning percentage of . 631 and is among the top coaches in DII for career wins. The Beavers will open their season in early September against regional opponents and will begin their conference play on September 19.
