The Bemidji State University volleyball team will head west for a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate (NSIC) matches this weekend as it takes on Minot State University Friday and University of Mary Saturday.
Scouting the Beavers
Bemidji State’s offense this season has run mainly through its pair of sophomore outside hitters, Jessica Yost and Amanda Tronick. Yost leads the team with 237 kills and 18 service aces, while Tronick ranks second on the squad with 178 kills.
Setting up Yost and Tronick has been senior Courtney Volkmann. Volkmann, who is currently ranked ninth in the NSIC in assists per set (9.03), has posted 40 or more assists in a match four times this season.
Junior Kayla DeJong has paced Bemidji State’s defense with 328 digs (4.43 digs per set). DeJong currently ranks seventh in the NSIC averaging 4.58 digs per set in conference matches. Meanwhile o
Series history vs. Minot State
BSU is 2-2 all-time against Minot State. Bemidji State took the first two matches, but MISU has won the last two including a 3-0 sweep in Bemidji, Minn. However, BSU won the only ever matchup between the two schools in Minot, N.D., 3-0 Sept. 14, 2012.
Series history vs. U-Mary
The Beavers hold an 11-9 advantage over U-Mary in the all-time series. The two teams have split the last six meetings with U-Mary winning the only meeting last season, 3-2 in Bemidji, Minn.
