The weekly radio show, “Sports in the Round,” which is held on Wednesday evenings from 6-8 pm at The Ground Round, will this week feature the Bemidji State women’s soccer program. The Beavers begin their 2010 season Friday, Sept. 3 at University of North Dakota before opening their home schedule Sept. 5 against Viterbo University at 3 p.m. at the BSU Soccer Field.
The show will feature head coach Jim Stone, who is in his ninth year. Stone signed a four-year extension over the summer and holds a 74-69-16 record at Bemidji State. He has guided the Beavers to five 10-win seasons, all coming since the 2004 campaign. Senior co-captain Ashlee Ellefsen (F, Hugo, Minn.) will also join the program. Ellefsen is returning to the line-up after earning all-region honors last season, leading the team in goals (13), assists (7) and points (33). She is the school’s all-time goals (32) and points leader (80).
The squad is returning 20 student-athletes to the roster that made the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference playoffs last season. Bemidji State finished 11-6-2 overall in 2009 and took sixth place with a 7-5-1 mark in NSIC play and was ranked 10th in the final NCAA Central Region poll.
