Just two games remain on the Bemidji State University women’s hockey team’s 2017-18 regular season schedule and will be hosted at No. 6 Ohio State University, Feb. 16-17. The Beavers (13-16-3, 8-12-2-1 WCHA) and Buckeyes meet for the final regular season Western Collegiate Hockey Association series at OSU Ice Rink on the campus of Ohio State.
The Beavers and Buckeyes will meet for the 73rd and 74th meeting in the all-time series dating back to 1999. Ohio State leads the all-time series at 37-24-12 but BSU is 2-2-1 in the last five meetings. The Beavers and Buckeyes met earlier in the season (Nov. 17-18) where BSU earned two points against fifth-ranked OSU.
Bemidji State earned a shootout win in game one but fell to the Buckeyes, 5-4, in game two. Freshman Mak Langei led the Beavers with a goal and assist in the series while junior Sylvia Marolt led BSU with two goals. Senior Alexis Joyce has tallied the most career points against the Buckeyes and in 14 games has totaled 10 points (4g-6a). Senior Emma Terres follows with eight points (4g-4a) in 13 games while junior Emily Bergland has six points (2g-4a) in nine games.
The Buckeyes (20-8-4, 13-5-4-3 WCHA) enter the final weekend of play second in the WCHA standings with 46 points and can clinch the two-seed in the WCHA Tournament with three points. Ohio State split its previous weekend at Minnesota State University, Mankato falling in game one to the Mavericks, 4-1, but responding with a 3-2 win in game two. Sophomore Jincy Dunne led OSU with two points (0g-2a) in the series while seven different Buckeyes recorded a point.
